STATE GOVERNMENTS
Ogun State Government

The Ogun State Ministry of Finance is the arm of the Ogun State Government responsible for the assessment, collection and accounting for all taxes and revenue of the State.

The main objective of this ministry and the State at large is to continually increase the number of entities in its tax net, as well as increase the tax revenue accruing to the State. To this end, several tax laws are in place, which the State strives to ensure strict adherence to by the relevant parties.  In order to fulfill its mandate, it was pertinent for the State to put in place mechanisms that will “Plug All Leakages” within the system.

The Challenge
The State formerly did revenue collection through banks, government agencies and by employing the services of revenue collectors. The entire collection process was manual - from the collection of revenue from companies and individuals to the generation of receipts (and credit advices) at the tax offices.  Due to the non-automated monitoring procedures, revenue collection in the State was fraught with various challenges. Also lack of adequate information about tax payers and other revenues of the State give room for leakages and other anomalies at various stages of the collection process.

The Solution

The State Governments desire for a collection solution that gives them more control and better monitoring was satisfied with the Ogun State PAYDirect Revenue Collection solution. As with the FIRS PAYDirect system described, the Ogun State system hitherto has enabled the Ogun State Government through its relevant parastatals, to answer the necessary  hows, whos, whys, whats, whoms, and wheres of an efficient revenue collection system.

Payments are made at the branches of these banks.  For monitoring purposes in various districts, some banks are appointed as lead banks, and the other collecting banks in the respective district remit collected funds to the lead bank on a periodic basis.

Tax payments via the internet and other channels are gearing up to start soon.
