The aviation industry is fast growing and electronic commerce today has revolutionized the way business in this sector is conducted especially since the adoption of the Internet by the business community over the last decade.
The airline operators required the introduction of a payment solution to enhance the traveling experience of their clients spread across Nigeria through e-ticketing.

Virgin Nigeria

The Company

Virgin Nigeria is Nigeria's biggest private sector- led airline. 51% owned by Nigerian institutional investors and 49% owned by Virgin Atlantic, it operates as Nigeria’s aviation flag carrier. Virgin Nigeria offers both local and international air travel services to various destinations.

The Problem

Virgin Nigeria wanted to deploy an e-ticketing solution which would provide its customers a secure and convenient means of booking and paying for their flights.
Hitherto, a lot of their transactions were done over the counter using cash. This, inspite of the high cost and inconveniences of handling cash, led to a high rate of delayed remittance of the available funds, making it impossible for its management to have access to their funds on time for business.

The Solution

The WebPAYDirect solution, with its payment tracking and reporting capability provided Virgin Nigeria a system to control its air ticketing cash flow by allowing Virgin Nigeria customers to do secure, time-saving ticket purchases via various payment channels - online, POS terminals, mobile – and ensuring that all funds collected are tracked, cleared and remitted to the operating accounts of Virgin Nigeria in real time.

In addition, Virgin Nigeria authorized personnel have access to an online management and reporting system that can be seamlessly integrated into the airline’s internal accounting/ operational processes.

How WebPAYDirect Works for Virgin Nigeria

>
Customer books a flight online on Virgin Nigeria website.

>

After confirmation of seat availability on the chosen flight, he goes on to make payment using his InterSwitch Debit card or CashCard

>

Customer clicks on Pay, and a payment window (the WebPAY engine) showing the booking number is loaded.

>

The customer enters his card details (card number, expiry date and PIN).

>

The customers account is debited online real-time (This typically takes sixty seconds or less to complete)

>

A transaction success message is presented and the customer gets an e-ticket which contains his flight PNR confirming a seat on the flight.

>

Customer prints out the e-ticket

>

At the point of departure, the customer presents a copy of his e-ticket and boards his flight.

The Virgin Nigeria site is automatically updated as to what seats have been taken and what is still available. Virgin Nigeria logs in to the solution to view relevant transaction reports.
