GHANA TELECOMS ADOPTS INTERSWITCH PAYDIRECT SOLUTION

InterSwitch limited, Nigeria’s premiere and leading transaction switching and payment processing company, is proud to announce the adoption of its PAYDirect solution by Ghana Telecoms.  Ghana Telecoms hopes to increase its revenue collection channels while minimizing the cost of doing so nationwide.

Ghana Telecom is the industry leader in the telecommunications industry and the largest employers in Ghana. As the industry leader, Ghana Telecoms provides the country’s telecommunication infrastructure which serves as the backbone for economic growth and development.

The solution will enable Ghana Telecoms to increase its avenues for distributing bills to customers, eliminate delays in payment processing and achieve its revenue assurance objectives using a reliable and efficient electronic revenue collection, tracking and reporting system.

InterSwitch PAYDirect® is an ePayment solution that gives an organisation better monitoring and more control of its revenues. Presently in Nigeria, the solution is being used by Lagos State Water Corporation, Power Holding Company of Nigeria, NITEL, MTEL, Ogun State and Federal Inland Revenue Service to improve their revenue collections.  The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation will be commencing a pilot on the PAYDirect®  revenue collection, monitoring and remittance solution soon.

The ability to get an online real-time view of collections is made possible as a result of the widespread network of the InterSwitch infrastructure and its online realtime integration to the banking application of all its member bank.

According to a representative of Ghana Telecoms, “Ghana Telecom's Revenue Collection arrangement is predominantly manual, and it takes up to 4 days for GT to receive the funds and then to credit the customer's account with a payment made.

The costs of running the current collection process using Ghana Telecom’s owned Customer care centres to receive payments has been identified to be very huge and cannot be sustained. This is why we have adopted the InterSwitch PAYDirect solution; the solution will help improve our services and ultimately, our bottom line”.  PayDirect solution is customizable and scalable for different organisations and it will give Ghana Telecoms the total control that is required.

According to Mr. Elegbe, Managing Director of InterSwitch limited, PayDirect solution is a proof of our ongoing commitment to creating secure, revenue-collections and account monitoring services for government and corporate organisations. We have acquired extensive experience from our operations in Nigeria and we have a vision to replicate our “Super Switch” infrastructure in countries starting from other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

We will provide service providers (financial, telecommunications and utilities) and merchants (retail and wholesale) with a single payment tracking and reporting solution for all payments (irrespective of type), via various channels, while at the same time ensuring that all funds are collected, cleared and remitted to the operating accounts of the service providers promptly.”

By leveraging PAYDirect, Ghana Telecom will (at a reduced cost) increase its revenue collection channels nationwide, increase avenues to distribute bills to customers, eliminate delays in payment processing and achieve its revenue assurance objectives using a reliable and efficient electronic revenue collection, tracking and reporting system.

The Group Head, Business Solutions of InterSwitch, Mr. Charles Ifedi says “we are very pleased that Ghana Telecoms has chosen InterSwitch PAYDirect solution to improve its bottom line and services to its customers”.  Mr. Ifedi recognizes the fact that “it is quite an honor to be associated with an organization like Ghana Telecoms that has such a rich heritage and a clear focus on the future.”
